On my visit to London in July, I visited The Tower of London.  One of my favorite parts is Traitor’s Gate pictured below.  The stairs on the left are where important prisoners would enter the Tower from the River Thames.

  1. I thought of this when you first showed me the pic last month, and then promptly forgot it.
    So did they run a boat through the gate and to the stairs, or did the traitor have to exit the boat and wade through the gate, thus adding to his shame?

  2. They did it both ways depending on the size of the boat, the tides and the notoriety of the prisoner.
